Winery review: Chateau Los Boldos (Chile)

Chateau Los Boldos has been present in Vietnam for almost 10 years, and you can find a selection of their wines at the Wine Warehouse.

This winery was created in 1991 with the aim of producing Premium wines from Chile. Its founder envisioned wines that would benefit from century old French winemaking techniques combined with Chile’s terroir potential and ability to produce outstanding wines. Their idea was to do something unique and different.

This dream was materialized in a single vineyard property and winery in Cachapoal Andes region, 100 km. south of Santiago, gathering unique conditions for Chateau Los Boldos to produce its wines.
The vineyard that existed previous to Chateau Los Boldos boosted an amazing opportunity and potential for production of Icon wines due to its old plantations. To name a few, Chateau Los Boldos benefits from a Cabernet Sauvignon parcel planted in 1948 and a Merlot parcel planted in 1959.

In 2008 Chateau Los Boldos became part of Sogrape Family, the largest wine producer of Portugal who became famous for Mateus rose. Seeing the terroir quality and nobility, Sogrape instigated a vast program of reform and investment.

Today Chateau Los Boldos is present in over 40 countries and strives every day to deliver high quality wines to its customers. Quality, sustainability and aim for perfection matched with a passion for wines makes Chateau Los Boldos to continue its quest for more and face the future with excitement and enthusiasm.

Completely renewed in 2012, Chateau Los Boldos winery architecture boosts its Old World heritage and influence.

With a 4 million litre capacity, selection table, temperature controlled stainless steel tanks of 5.000 and 20.000 litres, French and American oak barrels, Chateau Los Boldos Winery gathers all needed capabilities to produce outstanding wines.

The entire winemaking process is conducted with utmost care and every single step is closely monitored by our Winemaker and his team.

Chateau Los Boldos also possesses a modern bottling line with an output potential of 4.000 bottles
per hour, assuring that all our wines are estate bottled under the most appropriate conditions.
The wines’ style is characterised by using French oak mixed with American oak for maturing. The wines are not the typical “big” wines that you would expect from Chile, but wines with more elegance, more acidity and more complexity, giving Customers the opportunity to enjoy French style wines at Chilean prices!

The Chateau Range, the most popular in Vietnam, was the first to be released by Chateau Los Boldos in 1993. From Cuvée Tradition up to Grand Reserve, Vielles Vignes and Grand Cru, wines in this range gather the best of traditional French winemaking techniques and the uniqueness of our terroir.

All grapes are sourced at their own Cachapoal-Andes vineyard and wines are estate bottled. Only French oak is used for the ageing of the Chateau Range and wines reflect the purest expression of each grape varietal, where elegance and complexity prevails.

The icon wine, Amalia, is a new wine boosting with a Shiraz blend. Absolutely gorgeous with just 12.000 bottles being released per year.

The Wine Warehouse recently presented a selection of Chateau Los Boldos wines at Cobalt restaurant in HCMC. An ideal opportunity to enjoy these gorgeous wines, and mingle with other wine lovers.

Chilean winery Montes makes its debut in Vietnam with two food and wine presentations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Montes winery from Chile has recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. This medium size winery was created by four partners who decided to start making quality wines when everyone in Chile was focusing in making cheap wines.

Initially called mad for such decision, Montes defied the trend by making good while affordable wines and such decision has lead them to be currently present in 110 countries, including Vietnam, and be the Chilean pioneers in producing quality wines.

The innovative thinking and vast experience of Mr Aurelio Montes has led this winery to become one of the most recognised and admired in Chile. Always having a strong willingness to make good wines, Montes has expanded to both Argentina and California, and continue to invest in small projects, which bring them lots of satisfaction.

Montes has around 700 hectares of vines in Chile and another 300 hectares in Argentina, thanks to the
quality of its wine and lively style they export 95% of the wine they produce, even exporting to France.
Their wines have a lively style, with lots of fruit and expression and a very  particular terroir, leading to  producing elegant wines with soft tannins making them easy to be drunk either on their own or with food.

Their range covers 15 different wines, however their star is Taita, a limited edition wine with just 100 bottles available in Vietnam. “Taita” is the familiar term that Chileans use to call their parents and mentors as well as loved ones. I recently had the opportunity to try this amazing wine in Vinexpo, and its elegance and complexity make it a great contribution to the best cellars.
