Chilean winery Montes makes its debut in Vietnam with two food and wine presentations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Montes winery from Chile has recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. This medium size winery was created by four partners who decided to start making quality wines when everyone in Chile was focusing in making cheap wines.

Initially called mad for such decision, Montes defied the trend by making good while affordable wines and such decision has lead them to be currently present in 110 countries, including Vietnam, and be the Chilean pioneers in producing quality wines.

The innovative thinking and vast experience of Mr Aurelio Montes has led this winery to become one of the most recognised and admired in Chile. Always having a strong willingness to make good wines, Montes has expanded to both Argentina and California, and continue to invest in small projects, which bring them lots of satisfaction.

Montes has around 700 hectares of vines in Chile and another 300 hectares in Argentina, thanks to the
quality of its wine and lively style they export 95% of the wine they produce, even exporting to France.
Their wines have a lively style, with lots of fruit and expression and a very  particular terroir, leading to  producing elegant wines with soft tannins making them easy to be drunk either on their own or with food.

Their range covers 15 different wines, however their star is Taita, a limited edition wine with just 100 bottles available in Vietnam. “Taita” is the familiar term that Chileans use to call their parents and mentors as well as loved ones. I recently had the opportunity to try this amazing wine in Vinexpo, and its elegance and complexity make it a great contribution to the best cellars.

  1. As a wine enthusiast, my travels have taken me to a wide variety of vineyards and wine areas of France and Italy, and of course to the wonderful gardens of the wineries and surrounding places. Such spectacular fountains, planters and statuary! Citrus and olive trees in beautiful planters, stone statuary in the midst of bubbling fountains, elaborate terra cotta creations…. Imagine my pleasure, then, when I walked into Authentic Provence in West Palm Beach, Florida. In a beautiful environment of running water and good smells, the owners have sourced one of the finest collections of European garden antiques that I have seen in the USA: statues, fountains, planters (note especially the classic Caisse de Versailles, and Anduze pottery), terra cotta shields, stone animals, copper pots, garden spouts, etc. They also have beautiful stone fireplaces, re-purposed tiles, and many other specialty items. They are available online at http://authenticprovence.com, and can arrange shipping anywhere in the US. Well worth a visit!
